Entegris Completes Malaysian Facility Expansion

Kulim facility to include both manufacturing and research and development centers

 


 

Kulim, Kedah (Malaysia), November 9, 2006 --- Entegris, Inc., a global leader in materials integrity management, reaffirmed its commitment to Malaysia today with the launch of its expanded manufacturing facility at the Kulim Hi-Tech Park (KHTP) in the northern Malaysian state of Kedah Darul Aman. The new facility was officially opened by the Chief Minister of Kedah Darul Aman, YAB Dato’ Seri Mahdzir Bin Khalid.


The 91,000 square feet facility expansion, which houses both research and development (R&D) as well as manufacturing activities, brings the total size of the Company’s Kulim operation to 200,000 square feet. The Company’s investment in the facility expansion is approximately RM222 million (USD60 million) and covers investment in manufacturing infrastructure and equipment as well as expenditures related to future R&D projects.
 

When fully staffed, the Kulim facility will employ more than 500 people, predominantly Malaysians. Speaking at the ceremony, Entegris President and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Gideon Argov said that the expansion of the Malaysian plant to facilitate increased capacity is fundamental to Entegris’ global growth strategy, especially as Asia and Japan, as a region, produces 55% of Entegris’ overall revenues. It is part of the company’s global manufacturing strategy to optimize operating and supply chain efficiencies via lower manufacturing costs and improving service by being close to our customers wherever they may be in the world.
 

“Entegris’ commitment to Malaysia and our confidence in the local operation is evidenced by the size of our investment, which represents a significant portion of the total industrial investment made by US companies in Malaysia,” said Mr Argov.


The Company has been manufacturing a range of highly engineered high performance polymer products at the Kulim plant since 1997, and has plans underway to add additional products at its Kulim production. With the new expanded facility, Entegris customers’ primarily from the semiconductor industry as well as other high-technology industries including data storage and fuel cell, will benefit from increased efficiency.
