Kulim Hi-Tech Park to get
police station
Minister in the Prime
Minister's Department (Economic Planning Unit) Tan
Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said the move would help
build the confidence of foreign investors who had
planned to establish their operations here.
"This is an open area and there
have been many robberies. The situation,
nevertheless, is not serious.
"However, we want to make sure
that the area is crime-free. We will be calling for
the tender to build the police station soon."
He said several shoplots in the
industrial park would be upgraded to function as a
temporary police station.
He was speaking after a meeting
with investors of the hi-tech park at the Intel
Corporation plant here yesterday.
Nor Mohamed said the number of
police personnel would also be increased.
He said the EPU had also
approved allocations to upgrade the hospital and
fire station in the park.
"Our meeting also focused on
the future needs for electricity and water, as the
investors have expressed concern that interruption
to the supplies will affect their operations."
He said his trip was also to
check the status of the park to see if it was in
line with the government's aim to transform the
nation beyond the manufacturing sector.
"The government also wants to
make sure that the country has sufficient skilled
manpower when it moves to the next skilled level.
"More will be trained and there
will be no need to poach skilled workers from other
sectors."
